Open stair systems can be freestanding or have walls beneath them for needed support. Freestanding stairs are sometimes called “floating stairs,” with open air beneath each stair tread. These offer a clean, minimalist look that are ideal for a modern interior.  Open stairs can be left hand open, right hand open or double open systems.

A style of open stair system, butcher block feature thick wooden treads with no risers. Our 3.5” butcher block treads can be custom made in our facility from any species of wood.

Curved stairs add an elegant and classic element to your home. These stairs follow a curved or circular path and avoid square corners. Curves do require a larger footprint in your home, but can make a dramatic statement in the space.

A flared stair system has a wider opening at the bottom than at the top. Flares create an open, welcoming vibe at the foot of the stairs.

Spiral stairs are often chosen as a space-saving option, with pie-shaped treads surrounding a central column. Note that due to building codes, spiral stairs cannot be the only means of egress (exit) from a room.

Curb style stairs are built with a more prominent stringer, or angled support piece, than typical stair systems. All level rails will have thicker landing tread, while newels and balusters are installed directly into the curb.

Quickly growing in popularity, horizontal railings provide clean lines for nearly every type of straight stair system (curves/flares/spirals are typically excluded). If you have small children in the home, horizontal railings may not be ideal, as they tend to create a ladder effect.

If budget allows, choose glass railings for a sleek and ultramodern look. This design gives you the ability to easily see through your stairs into other rooms of the home.
